Saint-Brieuc: 10-year-old child charged with sexual assault and attempted murder
A child of ten and a half years old is now subject to judicial investigation in Saint-Brieuc. The alleged facts date from 15 June, when the boy reportedly attacked a 22-year-old woman in a wood in the Breton town.
According to information provided by the prosecutor's office and reported by TF1 Info, the suspect approached his target in an isolated area and demanded she remove her clothes. When the young woman refused, the alleged assailant—armed with a knife—inflicted two wounds on her, one to the upper limb and the other to the abdomen, before fleeing.
The day after the following week, investigators arrested the boy. Officers seized from him a weapon comparable to that used during the attack. The prosecuting magistrate emphasised that the description provided by the injured party corresponded perfectly to the profile of the accused. When questioned, the latter admitted his responsibility for the facts.
The minor was initially held in custody for twelve hours, a period extended once with the authorisation of the prosecutor's office. On 24 June, the investigating judge opened judicial proceedings for attempted voluntary homicide and aggravated rape through the use of a weapon. Pending the continuation of proceedings, a provisional educational measure was ordered: the child must observe a night-time curfew from 22:00 to 06:00 and is not permitted to approach the victim.
