Record seizure of 17 kg of drugs on Corsican road
On Wednesday 24 June, in the morning, officers from Ajaccio's motorised brigade conducted the arrest of a motorist at the Bocognano roundabout. The individual, who was travelling from Upper Corsica, was caught at a road checkpoint.
This operation specifically aimed to combat behaviour linked to the consumption of addictive substances, an increasing problem since the start of the calendar year. During this inspection, law enforcement officers discovered a cargo of illicit products in the vehicle: two kilograms of cocaine and fifteen kilograms of cannabis resin.
The discovery of these seventeen kilograms of drugs represents an unusually large haul for a routine traffic control. The defendant remained in provisional detention on Thursday 25 June at gendarmerie offices in Aspretto. His appearance before a magistrate could occur before the weekend.
