Drug trafficking in Sarlat: six defendants to face justice in early August
A gang of six people, including one woman, will appear on 3 August at 10:30 before the Bergerac court. They are suspected of having run a major drugs business in the Sarlat region of Dordogne. The case took a judicial turn on 15 June, the date on which a wave of arrests was carried out by law enforcement.
The suspects are accused of having distributed six kilos of cocaine and five kilos of cannabis, which allegedly generated around 500,000 euros in revenue. According to judicial authorities, the operation was organised in a rigorous manner and had been operating for several months. Each individual had a defined role: some were responsible for sourcing the merchandise, others for preparing it, and others for delivering it to customers. The latter placed their orders via Snapchat.
Among those accused is a 54-year-old man from the local upper classes, who owned nine holiday rentals in Vézac, near Sarlat. The five others lived directly in the city of Périgord Noir: a 42-year-old man in his forties already convicted of drug trafficking; a couple in their twenties with no criminal record; a 24-year-old young man also with no record; and a 25-year-old individual with five previous sentences. The two latter occupied a room in a property belonging to the 54-year-old.
The trial was originally scheduled to take place on 22 June in an immediate appearance procedure, but the defendants requested an additional delay. Three of them remain in prison ahead of the hearing, the others having been released under judicial supervision.
