A drug network dismantled by law enforcement in western France is the subject of a trial at Saumur court, with significant seizures of cocaine, cannabis and heroin.
Drug trafficking: eight accused appear in Saumur
A large-scale trial opened on Monday at the Saumur district court in Maine-et-Loire. Eight people are answering charges related to their participation in a drug trafficking network that operated across several departments in the west of the country, with particularly marked activity around the city of Saumur.
The investigation, conducted by the gendarmes, made it possible to intercept a substantial quantity of illicit products: nearly one and a half kilogrammes of cocaine, just over one kilogramme of cannabis, and more than 300 grammes of heroin. The investigators also seized a sum of 10,000 euros in banknotes, as well as four automobiles reported as stolen.
Nearly one hundred soldiers had been mobilised for this operation. The hearing, spread over two days, began with the presentation of charges and the questioning of seven of the accused. The latter were heard by the magistrates under reinforced supervision, with a squad of about ten police officers ensuring the security of the courtroom. The prevailing heatwave forced the court to install several ventilation units.
