The town of Divonne-les-Bains, in the Ain department, is reeling following the arrest of a young instructor at the Arc-en-Ciel centre. The 20-year-old man is suspected of having committed rape against a 4-year-old girl enrolled at the leisure facility.
The incident occurred last Thursday. Gendarmes intervened in broad daylight to apprehend the suspect, who was handcuffed in front of children and adults present, according to accounts gathered by Le Dauphiné Libéré.
The following day, mayor Vincent Scattolin and Guillaume Beaurepaire, representative of the Alpha 3A association which manages the facility, issued a statement to families. They mentioned a gendarmerie investigation concerning a recent incident at the Arc-en-Ciel kindergarten leisure centre.
The Bourg-en-Bresse public prosecutor's office opened a judicial investigation on Saturday 20 June 2026. In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, it clarified that the 20-year-old after-school instructor, with no criminal record, has been charged with rape of a minor committed by a person in a position of authority over the victim. In accordance with the prosecutor's requests, he has been held in provisional detention.
