French courts have reopened the investigation into a nursery school teacher in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in southern France, suspected of having committed sexual assaults against several children. The case had been dismissed by the public prosecutor's office in October 2025 due to insufficient evidence, but the children's parents contested this decision and obtained the reopening of the investigation, according to Correio da Manhã.

The case began with statements from two children in the same class, who told their parents that the teacher had put his "fingers on their buttocks", according to information from the BFM television channel. Following these revelations, two complaints were filed with the authorities. Subsequently, after a meeting at the school with all parents, two additional reports were added.

When the case was dismissed last October, the prosecutor in charge explained that the enquiries carried out had not made it possible to corroborate the children's accounts. According to the authorities, the testimonies were difficult to contextualise and one of the children had even stated, during his questioning, that "nothing had happened".

Dissatisfied with this decision, the parents of the children decided to contest it before the court, which led to the reopening of the investigation under the supervision of an investigating judge.

The parents publicly accused the authorities of having conducted the investigation in a "hasty" manner.

Following the initial accusations, the teacher had been suspended. However, after the case was dismissed, he returned to his post, although reassigned to a role with no direct contact with children. The teacher, who has worked in the education sector for more than ten years, had never been the subject of any complaint before and has always denied the accusations.

According to the parents, several children are currently being followed by psychology services. Clinical reports mention symptoms consistent with the alleged abuse reported by the minors. The new investigation will now be conducted by an investigating judge, who will decide whether there are sufficient grounds to refer the case to court.
