The judicial police operation took place on Monday in a building located in Champigny-sur-Marne, a municipality to the east of Paris. In addition to the painting by the famous Spanish artist, officers seized hashish, luxury clothing and several thousand euros in cash, according to information from the newspaper "Le Parisien" relayed by the same source.
The public prosecutor's office stated that an investigation for theft and handling of stolen goods had been opened following this unexpected discovery. The authorities have not, however, disclosed further details concerning the exact identity of the recovered work.
Four suspects were presented before the courts on Friday, added the public prosecutor's office in Créteil.
