An anti-drug operation carried out last week ended with an unexpected discovery: police seized a painting by Pablo Picasso that had been stolen at an unknown date from a Paris warehouse.
The work, whose title has not been revealed, was spotted by law enforcement during a search conducted in the Île-de-France region. According to the Créteil public prosecutor's office, investigators entered a residence in the Paris suburbs on 15 June in the hope of discovering a cache of narcotics. According to the news agency AFP, police officers found cannabis, luxury clothing and several thousand euros in cash, but also a work of art. Last Saturday, it was officially confirmed that it was indeed a painting by Picasso depicting Marie-Thérèse Walter – the Spanish painter's companion between 1927 and 1935.
