The sub-prefect of Pointe-à-Pitre has ordered, by decree dated 25 June 2026, the administrative closure for six months of the establishment Le Punto Latino, located in Grand Baie on the municipality of Gosier. According to guadeloupe.franceantilles.fr, the measure follows a shooting that occurred during the night of 19 April 2026 involving customers of the bar, as well as repeated breaches of regulations governing bars and drinking establishments.
A shooting at 4:30 in the morning
The incident dates back to 19 April 2026. At 4:30 a.m., police officers intervened near Poucet Bridge in Gosier in response to an individual who had been shot inside a vehicle that was stationary on a public road. The man had a gunshot wound to his right forearm and several open wounds to his left arm. Transported to the hospital, he survived his injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, interviewed as a witness, indicated to investigators that he, the victim and a third individual were among the customers of the Punto Latino at the time of the altercation that led to the violence.
Opening hours not respected and repeated violations
The investigation established that the establishment was welcoming members of the public beyond the hours authorised by the prefectural decree of 17 October 2025 governing bars and drinking establishments in Guadeloupe. This breach was not an isolated incident: on 1 July 2024, Le Punto Latino had already been subject to a three-month administrative closure for similar reasons. The prefectural decree emphasises that "these serious facts characterise repeated breaches".
The operator acknowledges the facts
Summoned on 22 June 2026 by representatives of the prefect, operator Jean-Marie Printemps acknowledged that his establishment was welcoming members of the public beyond the regulatory opening hours. His observations did not allow him to dispute the factual nature of the facts nor to call into question the necessity of the measure. The closure decree, notified in person on 26 May 2026, is enforceable. The establishment must remain closed until 26 December 2026.
The decree specifies that any violation of this measure exposes the operator to the sanctions provided for in article L. 3352-6 of the Public Health Code: two months' imprisonment and a fine of 3,750 euros. A closure notice must be displayed on the storefront throughout the duration of the measure.
