Shooting in Sainte-Rose: 24-year-old mother killed, possibly collateral victim

Mother of two shot dead at La Boucan in the night

A young woman of 24 years old, mother of two children, was killed by gunshot during the night of 19 to 20 October, shortly after midnight, in the La Boucan neighbourhood of Sainte-Rose, according to guadeloupe.franceantilles.fr. The victim was a resident of the area.

According to initial information gathered, a two-wheeled vehicle approached a car parked near a funeral services business before several shots were fired at the vehicle. Three people were inside the car at the time of the shooting. The young woman, hit in the head, did not survive her injuries. A second occupant was struck in the thigh and buttock. The third person in the vehicle was unharmed.

According to judicial sources, the theory of a settling of scores is favoured, with no apparent connection to urban violence and ongoing mobilisations in Guadeloupe. According to initial hypotheses, the shots were aimed at the victim's partner, which would make the young woman a collateral victim rather than the initial target of the attackers. This possibility remains, however, to be confirmed. The precise circumstances of the shooting and the identity of the person actually targeted have not yet been established.

This is the thirty-fifth murder committed since the beginning of the year within the jurisdiction of Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands, of which thirty were committed by firearm.
