The national police of Guadeloupe has achieved, according to la1ere.franceinfo.fr, a record since the beginning of the year: five firearms seized in less than twelve hours, during the night of Sunday 10 May 2026.
Two units were behind these operations: the anti-crime brigade (BAC) and the specialised ground brigade (BST) of Pointe-à-Pitre. Their officers intervened simultaneously across several sectors of the Pointe-à-Pitre agglomeration and Les Abymes.
The police officers conducted traffic checks, discreet surveillance operations and security missions, notably in the vicinity of festive events. These coordinated actions led to the arrest of several individuals, who were subsequently taken into custody.
Beyond handguns, officers also discovered narcotic substances as well as a substantial sum of cash.
Each week, illegal firearms are removed from their holders in Guadeloupe, who are subsequently brought before the courts. Such a volume of seizures in such a short span of time nevertheless constitutes a significant occurrence in the archipelago, a territory where the circulation of such weapons remains a persistent challenge for law enforcement.
