The Prosecutor of the Republic of Pointe-à-Pitre, Caroline Calbo, confirmed the facts and specified that the young man had received at least one bullet directly in the chest. An autopsy will allow the forensic doctor to determine the exact nature of the injuries.
The criminal investigations unit of the Territorial Directorate of the National Police (DTPN) has been tasked with an investigation opened for murder, according to the public prosecutor's office.
This is the 14th person killed in Guadeloupe since the beginning of the year, and the 14th homicide by firearm.
The night was also marked by other incidents. Gunshots were heard around 20h00 on rue du commandant Mortenol, in Pointe-à-Pitre, as well as in Le Gosier and Les Abymes, the prosecutor indicated. At this stage, the judicial authorities do not know whether these events are linked to each other.
