Eighth homicide of the year in Guadeloupe following shooting in Abymes

A young woman aged 22 was killed by gunfire during the night of Friday 13 March 2026 at the Les Portes de Sonis residential complex in Abymes. The public prosecutor for Pointe-à-Pitre, Caroline Calbo, confirmed the facts in a statement released the same day, according to a1ere.franceinfo.fr.

The shots were fired at around 2 o'clock in the morning, shortly after the carnival parade organised in Pointe-à-Pitre. Police services were called to the location for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, the forces of order found around fifty people gathered at the scene, apparently returning from the mid-Lent parade.

The emergency medical services confirmed the death of the victim at the scene. Two other people injured by gunfire were also provided with care and transported to the emergency services.

"Police services were called at around 02:00 for reports of gunfire at the Les Portes de Sonis residential complex in Abymes," stated Caroline Calbo in her statement. She indicated that "the death of a young woman aged 22 was confirmed by the emergency medical services", whilst "two other people injured by gunfire were located at the emergency services".

The duty magistrate, technical and scientific police officers, and the medical examiner attended the scene for initial investigations. The autopsy of the victim is scheduled for Monday.

The criminal investigation unit of the Territorial Directorate of the National Police (DTPN) was assigned the murder inquiry.

According to the prosecutor, the victim is the eighth person killed by homicide in Guadeloupe since the beginning of the year, all deceased from gunshot wounds. Seven of these eight murders were committed in the municipalities of Abymes and Pointe-à-Pitre.
