A father was taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the death of his two-and-a-half-year-old son, apparently killed by gunshot, according to lefigaro.fr, confirming information from local media.
On Sunday evening, the parents brought the child, a resident of Gosier, to the emergency department of the university hospital. He had a head wound. "On Sunday evening, a child was brought to the university hospital by his parents with a head wound," Alexandra Onfray, deputy prosecutor at Pointe-à-Pitre, told the AFP.
The child died during the night from his injuries, apparently caused by gunshot wounds. The account provided by the father allowed the prosecution, according to the prosecutor's office, "to establish suspicions justifying his placement in custody, initially on suspicion of attempted murder, then murder".
The exact circumstances remain to be established. The explanations provided by the father are considered "fluctuating" by investigators. "The custody and the various interviews aim to shed full light on the events," Ms Onfray stated.
