A gendarme was placed in police custody on Sunday 13 April after shooting dead a man armed with a knife in Le Moule, Guadeloupe, according to bfmtv.com, which confirms information first revealed by Radio Caraïbes International.
The incident occurred in the early evening, around 19:00 local time, or 1:00 am Paris time. "The individual with whom the gendarmes were confronted has died," declared deputy prosecutor Alexandra Onfray at the Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor's office.
According to local media, the man was attempting to attack the police forces. The gendarmes reportedly first resorted to a taser to neutralise him without success, before one of them fired their weapon.
A magistrate from the public prosecutor's office and the investigation section went to the scene to conduct initial observations, the public prosecutor's office stated. The investigation, intended to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, was entrusted to the investigation section.
