Google News FR — Crime (fr) reports that a major police operation was conducted on the evening of Wednesday 26 August in Matoury, French Guiana. Officers from the Office for Combating Illegal Trafficking of Migrants (OLTIM), supported by a canine unit, intervened as part of an investigation targeting an alleged organisation linked to the employment and accommodation of persons in irregular situations, according to information released by the Guiana National Police on its social media accounts.
On site, investigators discovered four persons engaged in undeclared work at the targeted establishment. The search also revealed an accommodation facility comprising ten rooms, as well as more than 7,000 euros in cash.
Several administrative documents were seized, including passports and residence permits. Verification established that two of these documents were forged.
Following the operation, the manager of the establishment and her son were arrested and taken into custody. They are being questioned for alleged offences of employing foreign nationals without residence permits, concealed work, and aiding illegal residence.
This intervention follows a first operation carried out a week earlier at a business in Cayenne, managed by the same person in charge. Police officers had then identified three persons engaged in concealed work, two of whom lacked residence permits. Investigators suspect several companies of having served as organised structures for employing and housing persons without legal status.
