Murder in Saint-François: five people charged, weapon recovered
Nearly a year after a 33-year-old man was shot dead in Saint-François, five suspects have been charged in two waves of arrests, with two held in provisional detention.
Five charged in Saint-François murder case in Guadeloupe
Five people have been charged in the investigation into the murder of a 33-year-old man committed on 21 July 2025 in Saint-François, according to a1ere.franceinfo.fr. Two of them are held in provisional detention.
The victim, originally from mainland France, was staying in Guadeloupe for a week's holiday and was due to attend a music festival in Le Moule. According to the Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor's office, he had returned at around 2 a.m. to a holiday villa located on the tourist route in Saint-François, in the company of friends, before leaving again shortly afterwards. Gunshots alerted those close to him, who found him seriously injured. He died at the scene despite emergency services' intervention.
A judicial investigation for murder was opened and the inquiry entrusted to the Gendarmerie Research Section of Guadeloupe. Analysis of the crime scene by the technical and scientific police, as well as evidence gathered, enabled investigators to identify several suspects.
Two initial arrests and weapon discovered
A first judicial operation, conducted on 18 May 2026, led to the arrest of two men. One of them indicated to investigators, during his custody interview, the location where the weapon used in the incident was hidden. The weapon was recovered and seized. Following their presentation before the investigating judge, the two suspects were charged: one held in provisional detention, the other under judicial supervision.
The interviews conducted during this first phase also made it possible to reconstruct more precisely how events unfolded and to identify three other alleged accomplices.
Three additional suspects arrested in June
A second operation, on 22 June, resulted in the arrest of these three new suspects. After 48 hours in custody, they in turn were charged. One was held in provisional detention; the other two are under judicial supervision.
In total, five people are now charged "to varying degrees of involvement" in this case, according to the Public Prosecutor of Pointe-à-Pitre, Caroline Calbo. The judicial investigation continues in order to determine the exact motives of those charged and to clarify each person's role.
