Murder in Saint-François: 21-year-old suspect released from prison one month earlier
A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 23-year-old on 27 May in Saint-François. He had just completed a sentence for aggravated assault.

According to la1ere.franceinfo.fr, a 21-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 23-year-old young man on Wednesday 27 May 2026 at 20:38, near the Macal secondary school in Saint-François, Guadeloupe. Remanded in custody, the suspect finds himself behind bars just one month after being released at the end of a sentence for aggravated assault.
The accused voluntarily presented himself to the gendarmerie in Saint-François two days after the incident, on 29 May. During his questioning, he admitted to striking the victim with a knife, but denied any intention to kill and any premeditation. Following his custody period on Sunday 31 May, he was brought before the court and presented to an investigating judge, who charged him with murder. The judge for freedoms and detention subsequently remanded him in custody at Baie-Mahault prison.
These details were communicated by the Public Prosecutor for Pointe-à-Pitre, Caroline Calbo, in a statement published on Sunday. The investigation was entrusted to the investigations unit of the Moule gendarmerie.
The Saint-François gendarmes were alerted on Wednesday evening following an assault with a blade weapon. Upon their arrival at 20:50, the victim was in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite the intervention of firefighters and the emergency medical service, his death was pronounced at 21:10. The duty magistrate and the medical examiner attended the scene at 22:30.
According to the initial findings of the investigation, the victim and the suspect had encountered each other in a small supermarket in the neighbourhood. An argument broke out as they left, and the two men headed towards an adjacent alley. It was a witness who discovered the victim on the ground and raised the alarm from the shop, whilst a passer-by administered first aid.
The autopsy, carried out on 29 May, confirmed the cause of death: stab wounds to the neck and sternum.
