The investigation into the double homicide in Longos, Aigion, is taking a new turn following a reassessment of the wounds found on the hands of 54-year-old Maria Lampropoulos. The marks in question are now being examined as "trial wounds", according to a report by Real.gr.
This term refers to superficial injuries that people inflict on themselves when contemplating ending their own lives before taking final action. Initially, authorities had assessed that the scratches resulted from the woman's self-defence against a blade attack.
An additional issue that emerges is the location of the fatal wound. The stab wound that led to the death of the 54-year-old is located on the left side of her body, while she was right-handed.
The main suspect in the deaths of the woman and her 26-year-old son, Olympios, remains her 65-year-old Italian husband. Following the discovery of the double crime, the foreigner was remanded in custody, where he remains detained.
The suspect claims that the two deaths resulted from a quarrel between the mother and her child, while he himself was in deep sleep on the living room sofa. Toxicological tests to which he was subjected showed the presence of cannabis and sedative substances in his body.
Despite the findings, the 65-year-old continues to deny any involvement. Investigators consider this stance particularly noteworthy, as in cases of domestic violence perpetrators typically confess after some time.
A significant gap in the investigation is the absence of fingerprints and genetic material from the suspect on both the weapons and at the location where the two bodies were found.
The Italian, a former executive at the ANSA news agency, met Maria in 2010. The couple settled in Greece two years later and married in Rome in 2014. His siblings, who live in Italy, have stated they are willing to travel to our country to testify on his behalf, should they be asked.
The Homicide Division awaits the final report from the medical examiner, which is expected to clarify aspects of this complex case.
