45-year-old arrested at Athens airport on warrant from Belgium
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the departures area of Athens airport before flying to Cyprus. A European arrest warrant had been issued against him by Belgian authorities for criminal organisation, fraud and money laundering.

In the early morning hours of 10 July 2026, police officers from the Security Service of Athens airport proceeded to arrest a 45-year-old man. The arrest took place in the departures area of the airport, shortly before the arrested man boarded a flight bound for Cyprus.
A European arrest warrant that had been issued by Belgian authorities was pending against him. The charges for which he was being sought concern participation in a criminal organisation, commission of fraud and laundering of proceeds from illegal acts.
According to information that has been gathered, the 45-year-old is believed to have joined from 2023 a cross-border group which defrauded unsuspecting investors through digital currencies. He appeared in the role of client liaison officer, approaching prospective victims and directing them to investment schemes that proved to be non-existent. From his participation in these activities he is believed to have acquired profits exceeding €160,000.
The arrested man was referred to the competent prosecutor for further proceedings in the case.
