A 70-year-old man was arrested in Kalochori after his attempt to drive away insects with fire caused an uncontrolled fire in warehouses.

A 70-year-old man was taken into custody following a fire that broke out in an agricultural area in the Kalochori region, near Thessaloniki. The incident occurred at the intersection of Kapetan Agra and Davaki streets, when the elderly man used burning paper in an attempt to drive wasps away from the location.

The flames were not contained and spread to adjoining warehouses. The specialised unit of the Fire Service investigating arson cases conducted a preliminary investigation and proceeded to arrest the suspect in flagrante delicto for negligent arson.

Additionally, the 70-year-old is required to pay an administrative fine of €5,886.56 for violation of fire protection regulations.
