According to lifo.gr, new evidence is emerging from toxicology tests carried out on the corpse of the 38-year-old British woman who was found dead in a suitcase in an abandoned building in Kypseli. A 26-year-old of Afghan origin has been remanded in custody in connection with the case, accused of wilful murder, robbery, and violations of weapons legislation.
From the toxicology tests, according to information from Mega, it emerged that fluoxetine was detected in the woman's corpse — a substance commonly used in the treatment of depression. The defence of the accused believes that these results open new lines of investigation, as it remains unclear whether the victim's pharmaceutical treatment is related to the circumstances of her death.
The defence of the 26-year-old is seeking to establish what exactly pharmaceutical treatment the 38-year-old was undergoing, as well as the quantity of fluoxetine found in her body. In parallel, a request has been submitted to the judicial officer for the provision of the victim's medical file.
Before the examining magistrate, the 26-year-old exercised his right to silence. His lawyer stated that the file of the case dossier is incomplete and is awaiting its completion before his client provides explanations.
In his statement, the accused maintained that he is not responsible for the woman's death. He claims that he found her dead in the apartment in Exarcheia — which is owned by him and his wife — and that he decided to place the corpse in a suitcase and transfer it to a building in Kypseli to avoid involvement.
The 26-year-old implicates a third party in the case. According to information from ANT1, he claims that he met an elderly man as he was leaving the house, who guided him on his next moves. According to the Athenian and Macedonian News Agency, the elderly man is reported to have advised him to remove the corpse "because you will get into trouble".
Regarding the withdrawals made using the victim's bank cards, the accused is reported to be arguing that he made them because the elderly man was demanding money so as not to speak to the authorities. According to the case dossier, the 26-year-old appears to have sent messages to the woman's relatives in order to mislead them and prevent a search for her.
The British wife of the accused, who met the victim through humanitarian and religious activities, appears to have informed the authorities of details that directed suspicions towards the 26-year-old. The authorities continue to investigate the motive for the murder, focusing both on her statement and on material from security cameras that have recorded the movements of the accused.
According to lifo.gr, on the first day of his transfer to Korydallos Prison, the 26-year-old was beaten by fellow inmates. The interest of the international media in the case remains intense; according to an ERT correspondent, outside the courts there are more crews from foreign — chiefly British — media outlets than Greek ones.
