"Choriatiko": Nine in custody – chief accountant with electronic tag due to age and health
Two additional defendants in the "Choriatiko" supermarket chain case have been remanded in custody, bringing the number of suspects provisionally detained to nine, according to To Vima. Testimonies are proceeding in full.
Among the two newly remanded suspects is a 53-year-old businessman from Rhodes, who is said to have held a leading role in the network. The second is also a businessman operating on the same island.
Different treatment was reserved for the alleged chief accountant of the organisation. The examining judge and prosecutor decided on house arrest with an electronic tag, taking into account his advanced age and the serious health problems he faces — despite the key role attributed to him in the case.
The judicial procedure has not been completed: testimonies remain from 15 more defendants, out of a total of 59 who were arrested and referred to the courts.
