Police have reported a man on suspicion of exploiting the poor judgment of an acquaintance and extracting 145,000 euros through a property transaction in Veli Lošinj.

The Primorsko-Goranska Police Authority has referred a 44-year-old Croatian man for criminal investigation on suspicion of exploiting the diminished mental capacity of a 30-year-old man. According to an official statement, the older man allegedly signed an unfavourable flat-purchase agreement with the younger acquaintance in Veli Lošinj, and subsequently resold it at a significantly higher price.
The incident occurred in May of this year. The suspect, according to investigators, exploited the reduced reasoning capacity of the younger resident. Together they concluded a property transaction involving a 542-square-metre property. The agreed price was only 20,000 euros, while the market value of the property was considerably higher.
Two months later, in July 2025, he sold the same property to a new buyer for 165,000 euros. The difference between the purchase and sale price amounts to 145,000 euros, which police consider to be unlawfully obtained proceeds.
Officers from Malinska-Lošinjska Police concluded their criminal investigation and forwarded the case to the competent authorities.
