Police have released details of a hostage crisis in Sesvete where a 33-year-old woman was held captive by a family member. The attacker threatened her with murder, restricted her freedom of movement and struck her multiple times.

Zagreb police have released details of a dramatic incident that occurred in Sesvete. The suspect held a 33-year-old woman hostage in an apartment on Saturday evening and throughout the night from Saturday to Sunday, restricting her movement, according to Večernji list.
According to an official statement, the man insulted the victim on multiple occasions and made threats to kill her. Additionally, he allegedly locked her in a room in the flat, preventing her from moving freely. During the night he physically attacked the injured woman several times.
Neighbours heard the woman's screams from the balcony on Sunday and called police. Regular officers and members of a special unit were deployed to the scene, entered the flat and ended the crisis.
After the criminal investigation was concluded, a criminal complaint was filed against the man with the competent state prosecutor's office. The suspect was then handed over to a remand supervisor.
He is now charged with grievous bodily harm, threats, domestic violence and unlawful deprivation of liberty. All of the aforementioned criminal offences were allegedly committed against a 33-year-old family member.
