Attempted murder in care home near Osijek: man strangled immobilised resident
A man born in 1965 has been charged with strangling an immobilised roommate with his hands on 3 December 2025 in a care home. The victim survived because the perpetrator mistakenly believed she was dead.
Osijek-Baranya: indictment for aggravated attempted murder in care home
The County State Attorney's Office in Osijek has filed an indictment against a Croatian citizen born in 1965 for aggravated attempted murder, according to 24sata.
According to the indictment, the man entered the room of a roommate born in 1951 on 3 December 2025 in a care home in the area of Osijek-Baranya County. He took advantage of her immobility and inability to resist and repeatedly squeezed her neck with his hands, causing her bodily injury.
The crime was not completed solely due to the defendant's miscalculation — he left the room convinced that he had already killed the victim. The injured party survived.
The indictment has been filed with the County Court in Osijek. The prosecution has proposed an extension of remand detention on grounds of danger of repeated criminal offence. For aggravated attempted murder, the Criminal Code prescribes a prison sentence of at least five years.
