Zagreb police caught a young Serb driving a BMW while transporting four people who had illegally entered the country.

In the early hours of Tuesday, officers from Zagreb police stopped a BMW vehicle in the area of New Zagreb, according to reports from 24sata.
The blue-coloured vehicle had Austrian registration plates. Behind the wheel was a twenty-year-old from the neighbouring country, and four foreign nationals were travelling in the back seat. Officers determined that these persons had crossed the border without permission.
According to eyewitness accounts, plainclothes police officers appeared first, followed by uniformed colleagues. The driver was handcuffed and taken away. The passengers were removed and transferred to an official vehicle. The BMW remained parked at the scene under guard.
Criminal investigation has been launched against the young Serbian man. He is accused of human trafficking, namely assisting foreigners in unlawfully entering, travelling or residing on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, another EU country or a signatory state of the Schengen Agreement.
Four foreign nationals were taken to a police station to verify whether they had any basis for residence.
On the same day, police conducted another operation, this time near Susedgrad. On Monday they detained a Georgian and a Slovak, both 38 years old. They were legally residing in Croatia, but are suspected of placing fake registration plates on a vehicle. Instead of Slovenian plates, they used Slovak ones. It subsequently emerged that the vehicle was stolen. Both ended up in a prison cell charged with producing false documents.
