A 47-year-old man locked a 33-year-old woman on a balcony in Sesvete, threatened to kill her and physically attacked her multiple times. Police broke down the door and arrested the suspect after four hours of attempting to locate the flat.

In the Zagreb neighbourhood of Sesvete on Sunday, a dramatic hostage crisis occurred in which a 47-year-old man held a 33-year-old woman on the balcony of a residential building. Neighbours heard her screams and called the police, who arrived at the scene together with a special unit.
According to a statement from an eyewitness published by the portal 24sata, the intervention lasted from the morning. Police officers first spent around four hours trying to establish the exact balcony where the woman was located. The man did not allow her to enter the flat, and police shouted at him to open the door. When he failed to do so, officers broke down the entrance and entered the flat.
Zagreb police later reported that they had completed the criminal investigation against the 47-year-old. According to their official statement, the suspect on Saturday 13 June in the evening and throughout the night from Saturday to Sunday verbally abused the woman multiple times, threatened that he would kill her, locked her in one of the rooms of the flat and restricted her freedom of movement. It is also suspected that he physically assaulted her on several occasions.
Following the investigation, a criminal report was submitted to the competent state prosecutor's office. The suspect was handed over to a detention supervisor.
