A man of North African origin was arrested overnight in Bassano del Grappa after forcing open the entrance door of a building on Via Passalacqua.

During the night between Saturday and Sunday, officers from Bassano del Grappa Police Station rushed to Via Passalacqua following a report: several residents had heard loud noises similar to gunshots coming from the entrance door of a residential building.
Upon arrival, the officers found that the entrance to the building had been forced open and showed clear signs of damage. Not far away, they noticed an individual of North African origin who was cycling away on a women's bicycle. At the sight of the police vehicles, the subject dropped the bicycle and fled on foot, but was stopped after a brief chase.
Subsequent checks clarified that the loud noises reported were not gunshots, but rather the noise caused by the breaking of the entrance door. The detained individual was taken to the Police Station, where fingerprints made it possible to establish his identity: a Moroccan born in 1987, with no fixed residence on national territory. At that point he was placed under arrest and taken to the local prison.
It should be noted that the restrictive measure was issued ex officio by the investigating authority and that, by virtue of the presumption of innocence, criminal responsibility must be established through a final judgment.
