The Milan surveillance tribunal has issued an order that establishes the definitive freedom of Alberto Stasi. The man, convicted of the murder of Chiara Poggi which occurred in 2007 in Garlasco, leaves Bollate prison after serving 10 years and 6 months of his sentence.
The tribunal accepted a proposal from the prison director, who had suggested absorbing social service obligations into the work that Stasi has been performing for years as head of administration at a company. No period of voluntary work will therefore be necessary.
The freedom granted is conditional on compliance with precise rules, but represents the conclusion of the chapter relating to the execution of the sentence. Stasi must nonetheless adhere to certain obligations imposed by the judicial authority.
In parallel, another phase of his judicial proceedings continues: a request for trial review, which remains in its initial stages. The defence continues to maintain the defendant's innocence and to seek the reopening of the case.
