Garlasco case: investigations do not confirm corruption for Venditti, closure appears likely
The carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza of Pavia have delivered to the Brescia prosecutor's office the results of investigations into alleged crimes committed by former deputy prosecutor Mario Venditti. The checks reportedly did not produce evidence proving payment of money or other benefits to Venditti himself in order to obtain the closure of proceedings against Andrea Sempio, which occurred in 2017 in the context of the inquiry into the Garlasco homicide.
The file delivered also includes the results of investigations into the "Pavia system", another line of enquiry in which the former magistrate is under investigation for alleged irregularities in the administration of service vehicles of the prosecutor's office and in the tender for interception services.
The positions of some lawyers and military personnel who operated in that period would instead appear more compromised compared to that of Venditti.
Public prosecutors Donato Greco and Alessio Bernardi could therefore propose closure for the former prosecutor. This decision would involve the elimination of the official referral based on article 11 of the code of criminal procedure, which had shifted the investigations from Pavia to Brescia to remove them from the jurisdiction of the magistrates of the Milan district. In the absence of involvement of judges from Pavia, the case could fall back within the competence of the original prosecutor's office.
