Catania police have apprehended a 21-year-old from the Sicilian capital city accused of possession of narcotics for the purpose of sale. The operation was launched during a patrol in the Via Palermo district, when officers noticed the young man throwing objects from his balcony at the sight of police.
The drug detection dog Ares immediately detected the presence of hashish, allowing recovery of the packets thrown. With the help of other patrols, investigators entered the apartment to carry out a detailed search. In the bedroom wardrobe they found thirteen bags of marijuana with a total weight of over nine kilograms.
Alongside the drugs was a precision scale and small bags intended for cutting and retail sale. The entire quantity was seized and sent to scientific experts for qualitative and quantitative analysis.
The young man was transferred to the police station's holding cells following notification to the magistrate on duty. The court subsequently validated the custody and imposed on the detainee an obligation to sign in at police offices.
