Officers from the Como Mobile Squad have arrested a 22-year-old boy, an Albanian national, homeless and present illegally in Italy. The charges relate to possession and distribution of drugs in the provincial capital of Como.
The investigation began with surveillance of his movements driving through the city. The young man moved between different districts, stopping briefly on quiet streets, shopping centre car parks and public areas: behaviour consistent with street-level drug sales.
During one of these stops, officers spotted a buyer immediately after an exchange. The purchaser was stopped and found with two cocaine doses just received; he was fined for possession for personal use.
Attention then turned to some longer stops in rural areas, apparently used as storage locations. During a vehicle search, 20 packages containing 15.79 grams of cocaine and 275 euros in banknotes of various denominations were found, considered proceeds of criminal activity given the defendant's status as an undocumented illegal resident and unemployed person.
The search continued at the rural location where he had been seen shortly before: there a further 80 packages totalling 55.91 grams of cocaine were found. A further inspection led to the seizure of another 1,000 euros.
In total, over 100 doses of the narcotic were recovered. The boy was taken to Como prison, with the validation hearing scheduled for the following morning.
