Law enforcement in Ferrara, assisted by the Crime Prevention Unit from Bologna, carried out targeted operations in the city's most critical areas. The results: two people arrested and ten charged with various offences.
Ferrara: Crackdown in High-Risk Areas, Arrests and Charges
Over the past two weeks, officers from the Ferrara State Police — supported by patrol units and the Crime Prevention Unit from Bologna — carried out intensive surveillance operations in areas of the city considered most critical. The result was the arrest of two individuals and the charging of ten other people, accused of offences ranging from attempted theft to criminal damage.
Five of those charged are to be questioned over alleged attempted theft of goods from shops, whilst another faced charges for criminal damage. One was reported for breach of a bail condition and two for violating a ban on return issued by the municipality. During the operations, officers also issued fines to some individuals for disorderly conduct whilst intoxicated and took three people without documents to police headquarters. Among these, a foreign national without a residence permit was deported and held in a Temporary Stay Centre pending forced return to his home country.
One of the arrests was made for robbery. A man who had taken goods from a business and passed the tills without paying was confronted by an employee. To escape, the thief violently pushed the shop assistant, causing him minor injuries. Patrol units that arrived at the scene managed to stop him and take him into custody. The Questor subsequently issued an order barring him from returning to Ferrara for the next four years.
On another occasion, during an inspection of an amusement arcade, officers discovered that a foreign national present in the premises was wanted: he still had to serve over a year of a custodial sentence. After completion of procedures, he was transferred to the city prison.
The entire operation included checkpoints and large-scale identity checks, with the aim of combating disorder and illegality. In total, almost nine hundred people were identified, many with criminal records. For the most dangerous individuals, restrictive measures were issued: four verbal warnings, five mandatory expulsions from the municipality, and two formal warning notices.
