State Police traced and reported to the judicial authorities a woman suspected of having organised fraud through social networks. The alleged perpetrator advertised holidays at bargain prices, including a weekend stay in a European capital for just €180.
The system that was put in place was recurring: after attracting the client's attention, the woman would request payment of a deposit equal to 50% of the total cost via bank transfer, guaranteeing a booking and tickets in exchange. Once the money was collected, the telephone number used for communications would be deactivated and the victim would be left without a booking and without their money.
On this occasion, the target was a young resident of the province of Frosinone, who filed a complaint after realising she had been defrauded.
The arrival of the fine season considerably increases cases of this type. Criminals routinely resort to counterfeit websites and fraudulent email messages. Data indicate that over 25% of fraud originates on social media, while approximately 17% passes through chat apps. In a context where artificial intelligence can make users more vulnerable, it is essential to turn only to reliable platforms and promptly report suspicious offers to law enforcement.
