As part of an investigation into an attempted murder in Austria, Italian police have arrested three suspects in the Milan metropolitan area. A fourth man remains at large. Authorities announced this on Tuesday.

The four Egyptian nationals are being investigated for attempted murder, as well as unlawful deprivation of liberty and sexual violence in Styria. The arrests were based on European arrest warrants and investigation orders from Graz courts.

The arrested men are aged 26, 36 and 44, and lived in the Milan metropolitan area. A 41-year-old accomplice continues to be sought.

According to the Graz prosecutor's office, the crimes are believed to have occurred on 8 February in Austria. The victim, also an Egyptian national, is said to have been severely mistreated by the suspects. The alleged perpetrators are believed to have deprived the victim of liberty and subjected them to other serious assaults. During the incident, they are said to have used blunt weapons and a firearm.

The investigation in Italy was conducted by Milan police.
