Milan, investigation into failure to render assistance: Belén Rodriguez in Public Prosecutor's records
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Milan has opened a case file against Belén Rodriguez, adding the television presenter's name to the register of those under investigation for failure to render assistance. Coordinating the investigation is public prosecutor Maria Cristina Ria, according to a report by Corriere della Sera.
The matter began with two motor vehicle accidents that occurred on 23 May in the heart of the Milanese city. Local Police officers who responded to the scene gathered evidence that would indicate Rodriguez as responsible for the collisions. Officers report that the woman would have continued driving without providing assistance or stopping to account for what happened, subsequently being located at her private residence.
Initially, law enforcement had imposed an administrative fine on the broadcaster and revoked her driving licence, simultaneously transmitting a detailed report to the judicial authorities. The move to the formal investigative phase, with the registration of the investigated party, now places Rodriguez's position in a more delicate situation from a legal standpoint.
Rodriguez has not made any public statements regarding the investigation. Public prosecutor Ria will continue to reconstruct the exact sequence of events to establish whether the prerequisites exist for any potential criminal prosecution.
