Investigation into murder in the death of David Rossi
According to rainews.it, the anti-mafia district directorate of Florence has opened a murder investigation into the death of David Rossi, former communications director of Monte dei Paschi di Siena. Rossi fell from the window of his office on 6 March 2013. Previous investigations by the Siena magistracy had concluded that it was suicide.
The documents were transmitted to Florence following a report filed by his wife Antonella Tognazzi and daughter Carolina Orlandi, who have for years been requesting further investigation. The anti-mafia prosecutor's office in Brescia has also opened a parallel investigation file. The documents from the parliamentary inquiry commission, presented in March, had ruled out the suicide hypothesis and will be incorporated into the Florence investigation.
The verification will focus on the management of MPS sponsorships. The bank had an annual budget of approximately 50 million euros, reduced by around ten million shortly before Rossi's death. Investigators will reconstruct the destination of the funds and any beneficiaries of the cuts, assessing possible links with organised crime environments.
The inquiries will need to verify the elements gathered and establish whether there are concrete findings to support the murder line of inquiry.
