Fresh prosecutorial inquiry into Pasolini murder — lawyer points to far-right

Rome prosecutorial office reopens Pasolini murder file

Rome's prosecutorial office is to conduct a new investigation aimed at identifying possible unknown instigators behind the murder of Italian poet, writer and director Pier Paolo Pasolini, according to skai.gr. The leading intellectual was killed in Ostia, a seaside suburb of Rome, on 1 November 1975.

The relevant report to the prosecutorial office was filed by lawyer Stefano Mazzoni, who had previously taken on the defence of a cousin of the poet. In his statement, Mazzoni emphasised that "the judicial decision which presented Giuseppe Pelosi as the sole perpetrator has been disproven for eighteen years now by a series of evidence which emerged from further investigations and forensic findings".

"Our new report is based on new evidence we have gathered," Mazzoni said, adding: "We hope Rome's prosecutorial office will finally manage to provide the answers we have been seeking for a very long time." He called on anyone who knows information and "until now has preferred to remain silent" to speak out.

According to many analysts, Mazzoni considers it certain that Pasolini's murder was motivated politically and that those who instigated it belonged to far-right and neofascist organisations.
