A gruesome discovery has shaken the small town of Amendolara, in the province of Cosenza. On Monday late morning, firefighters called to extinguish a blaze found the remains of four people inside a commercial vehicle completely engulfed in flames.

The fire broke out at a petrol station located along the main coastal road. The area was immediately cordoned off by carabinieri to allow investigative operations to proceed.

Initial reconstructions by investigators suggest that the victims were Pakistani citizens employed as seasonal labourers in the surrounding countryside. The area is indeed known for widespread employment of Asian workers in the agricultural sector, often paid low wages and working in precarious conditions.

The circumstances of the deaths remain shrouded in mystery at present. Investigators are not ruling out any line of inquiry, including criminal involvement. Images from security cameras present at the petrol station could provide useful information to reconstruct what happened.

Amendolara, a village of approximately three thousand inhabitants, is located in the heart of Calabria, a territory historically marked by the presence of the 'ndrangheta.
