Rome: Four-and-a-half years for sexual abuse of partner's minor daughter
Judges from the V panel of the tribunal at Piazzale Clodio have imposed a sentence of four-and-a-half years in prison on a 49-year-old man, found responsible for aggravated sexual assault on a minor girl. The verdict was issued on 3 June, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano.
The defendant had lived for some time with the victim's mother, a girl to whom the court assigned the fictitious name Maria. Over the years, the man allegedly engaged in a series of harassing behaviour: touching the young girl's intimate areas, embracing her without consent, groping her even in the kitchen despite her attempts to get away by retreating to her room. The harassment allegedly continued for over three years.
The girl had never confided in anyone about what happened, fearing that the relationship between her mother and her partner might end because of her. She had only confided in a friend. The situation came to light in 2022, when the woman caught the man with his hand under her daughter's pyjamas. At that point the minor recounted everything.
According to the reconstruction by deputy prosecutor Barbara Trotta, the defendant forced the young girl to "endure subtle and sudden sexual acts". The abuse caused the victim eating disorders. The magistracy had initially sought seven years in prison.
Upon leaving the courtroom, the civil party lawyer Patrizia Perugini expressed satisfaction with the verdict, emphasising the importance of judicial protection afforded to the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
