San Pio, gunshot fired during row: man held in custody
On the evening of 24 May, in a town in Foggia province, a quarrel escalated into an armed assault. A 46-year-old man, residing in San Giovanni Rotondo, shot a 51-year-old in the left side. The wounded man was promptly treated and taken to a local hospital, where doctors issued a guarded prognosis.
Military personnel from the Carabinieri, guided by the Public Prosecutor's office of the chief town of Foggia, conducted swift investigations that made it possible to identify the suspect. In the hours that followed, during searches at his home and on his person, illegal arsenals came to light: three revolvers with no serial numbers, one of which matched the weapon used in the crime, a long-barrelled rifle calibre 22 — which is being investigated to verify its provenance — ammunition of various calibres and explosive substances.
The investigators' reconstruction places the facts inside the victim's home. An ordinary discussion between the two would have escalated until the 46-year-old grabbed the weapon and opened fire. The preliminary investigation judge of the Foggia Court subsequently approved the detention; the alleged perpetrator is now held in the town prison.
