A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Taranto on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. The operation was carried out by officers from the Mobile Squad, who had been monitoring a building on via Giusti for some time.
Investigators had noticed suspicious activity inside the building. An individual with a criminal record related to drug trafficking moved with unusual frequency, receiving brief visits from various young people, some of whom were clearly dependent.
Police waited for the right moment to act, taking advantage of the narrow layout of the street to block any escape route. The suspect attempted to take refuge on the upper floor, but the swift action of the officers rendered the attempt futile.
During the search, a purse was found containing various doses of hashish, cocaine and marijuana. A precision scales with residues of the substance was also discovered, along with 140 euros in small denomination cash, probably the proceeds of illegal sales.
Confirmation of the dealing activity came when some customers, during the raid, mistook plainclothes officers for associates of the suspect and asked for their usual dose.
Following formalisation of the arrest, the material was made available to the judicial authorities. The suspect enjoys the presumption of innocence until any final conviction.
