Carabinieri have arrested a 31-year-old man who had enslaved his partner by locking her in a container located in a private area near Tivoli, in the province of Rome.

The woman had shown no signs of life since 24 May. Concerned, her mother filed a report with law enforcement, who launched search operations. Military personnel from the Arma subsequently located the 34-year-old inside the metal container: she was visibly traumatised, crying desperately and showing bruises caused by recent physical assaults.

According to the investigation, the partner had violently dragged her to the isolated site and imprisoned her, preventing her from any contact with the outside world. When the carabinieri arrived at the location, the suspect attempted to evade capture by fleeing through nearby fields, but was nevertheless found and apprehended shortly after.

The individual is now detained at Regina Coeli prison, accused of domestic abuse, stalking and aggravated assault. The woman was taken to the emergency room at Ariccia hospital, where she was deemed to require ten days for recovery.
