A man died on Sunday in Anykščiai district when officers from the police anti-terrorism special operations unit "Aras" were forced to respond to his aggressive behaviour. Renatas Vitkauskas, head of Utena district police headquarters, told media on Monday about the incident, according to Alfa.lt.

The incident was reported by the deceased man's relatives. When local police arrived, the man refused to comply with their instructions, so a decision was made to call in officers trained for special operations. Before they arrived, the individual fired two shots from his weapon.

Finally, when "Aras" forces arrived, the man opened fire on them once more. The special officers then returned fire and neutralised him. The man died at the scene.

According to R. Vitkauskas, this individual had previously drawn police attention through his aggressive behaviour. The commissioner said that officers had visited his home more than once, and possible health problems may have contributed to his conduct.
