Concern has arisen on social media about a man who, according to residents, has been attacking passers-by in Užupis. People are sharing images of him and urging one another to be careful. Officials have confirmed that a pre-trial investigation has been opened into this person's conduct, but it has not been disclosed whether he has been detained.
Local residents report that a few days ago this man attacked women in Užupis. On Monday he was seen again walking around the city. He is said to be carrying dangerous items with him.
Vilnius District Police Headquarters informed LRT.lt that they received a report about this person. He struck a woman in the face in a shop. An investigation has been opened into minor assault. The Criminal Code provides for this offence a sentence of restriction of liberty, arrest, or imprisonment of up to three years.
Police department representative Ramūnas Matonis commented on the situation online. He assured that officials are investigating the circumstances. "Various precautionary measures can be imposed on suspects. The strictest precautionary measure, detention, is imposed only in exceptional cases where there are grounds for it," he explained.
Police have not commented on the suspect's state of health. This year, officials were called to this person on a previous occasion due to breach of public order.
