In Jēkabpils, a man without a driving licence and with a blood alcohol level of 0.99 per mille, attempting to escape from police, lost control of his BMW and collided with a passenger bus.

In Jēkabpils in the evening at around eight o'clock, a man, upon seeing a police patrol, decided to flee. He was behind the wheel of a BMW, although he had neither a valid technical inspection nor an OCTA insurance policy, nor a driving licence itself — furthermore, the period of licence suspension was still in effect.
The man accelerated, but soon on a section of Slimnīcas Street lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a public transport bus. In the accident, people did not suffer physical injuries, although medics examined four people involved — including the driver's wife and a small child in a child seat who were in the BMW. Nobody required hospitalisation.
A breath test revealed that the man had nearly one per mille of alcohol in his blood — more precisely, 0.99 per mille.
He now faces both criminal proceedings and an administrative violation case. The investigation is continuing.
