1,024 arrested in international human trafficking operation
Police in 22 countries conducted a coordinated operation against human trafficking in June. A total of 1,024 people were arrested by police during the operation.
Norwegian police forces also participated in the operation, which was organised by Europol under the designation "Operation Global Chain". In Norway, 24 people were checked by police during the national operation days.
Julie Platou Kvammen, who heads the police's national centre of expertise in this field, explained that the checks were carried out following tips about premises where vulnerable persons could be present. She is a police inspector at Kripos.
During the Norwegian part of the operation, four cases of pimping were uncovered. Two of these were registered in Oslo, one in the East police district and one in Møre and Romsdal. In addition, an investigation was opened in the East regarding purchase of sexual services.
Kvammen emphasised to adressa.no that combating human trafficking ranks high on the agenda in cooperation with Europol, and that Norwegian authorities are participating fully in this work.
