32-year-old from "Patriot Bergen" arrested for threats against police, journalists and mayor
A 32-year-old far-right extremist was arrested in Bergen on Thursday after posting messages interpreted as terror threats. Police are investigating at least seven criminal cases against the man.
32-year-old from "Patriot Bergen" arrested for repeated terror threats in Bergen
A 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday afternoon by police in Bergen after publishing messages on X that could be interpreted as threats of terrorism and violence against police officers. This is confirmed by filternyheter.no, which obtained the information directly from Bergen police.
– A man reported for threats was just arrested, as it was important for police to find out if there was any intention behind these messages. He did not want to come with us, so police were on site for a good while before he was willing to go with them, says police lawyer Linn Søfteland, duty officer at Vest police district.
The escalation on X
Shortly after 11.45 on Thursday, the man wrote on X: "Bergen police have just made a huge blunder," accompanied by a clip from Pirates of the Caribbean where the mythological sea monster Kraken is invoked. An hour later, he tagged the Police Security Service (PST) directly and wrote: "@PSTnorge do you hear that, fucking arseholes? You have just awakened a demon I tried to spare us from."
At 13.08, he followed up with: "I don't care any more. Take cover, Terror is loose," and added that he would "surpass" a named Norwegian blogger who in questioning allegedly said he planned to attack a police officer with a knife on Torgallmenningen in Bergen.
After police were notified of the messages, the 32-year-old posted another post – an image from a Lord of the Rings film with no accompanying text, playing on the fury of the tree-like creatures "Ents" over their felled forest.
Six previous cases since April
Police are now investigating at least seven different criminal cases against the man.
– Prior to today's messages, he is registered with six similar cases since April this year. These involve two reports for hateful statements and four for threats, police lawyer Søfteland told filternyheter.no.
Bergen police are now considering whether the 32-year-old should be remanded in custody.
Connection to "Patriot Bergen" and the 17 May incident
The man has in recent weeks appeared to be part of "Patriot Bergen", a small group of anti-immigrant activists. The group became known after a violent incident in Bergen on 17 May, when they started posting minors suspected in the violence on social media and on physical posters around the city.
In a podcast broadcast with a far-right host last week, the 32-year-old went far in describing what he wanted to do with the teenagers behind the 17 May violence: "It's obviously a lot of fun to use violence against violent Muslims. If I could do exactly as I wanted in this case, I would have gone to their door and beaten them to hell," he said, and warned that he would deploy what he called "my tactics" if police did not act.
Recently, he has also posted an image of Anders Behring Breivik with a rifle in response to posts from political opponents, repeatedly.
Threats against mayor, journalists and judge
Last Friday, the 32-year-old responded to a post from Bergen Mayor Marit Warncke (H) by writing: "You won't live long, you fucking arsehole." Warncke had days earlier spoken out and criticised the posting of suspects in the 17 May incident.
– We are aware of possible threats among other things against journalists at BA and against the mayor, confirms police lawyer Søfteland.
After Bergensavisen in collaboration with Faktisk on Monday reported on far-right accounts on social media that spread an unredacted video from the 17 May incident, the 32-year-old published a series of threatening messages in which he named the journalists who had worked on the case. Some of the messages were interpreted as indicating he wanted to gain access to the editorial offices of Bergensavisen and other media.
In addition to the mayor and journalists, the man has made insinuations of violence or reprisals against a district court judge in Oslo.
No previous criminal record
The 32-year-old has no previous criminal record, but is, to filternyheter.no's understanding, charged with serious theft in connection with a residential burglary in 2025, committed together with another man. The arrested man is a different person from the man from the same milieu that filternyheter.no reported by name on 28 May.
For security reasons, filternyheter.no chose not to contact the 32-year-old directly before his arrest. He has not provided any comments to the editorial office.
