Father and son shot dead at hunting party in Norwegian Halden
Two people – a father and his son – have been killed and a third person seriously injured following a shooting in Halden in southern Norway, near the Swedish border. This is reported by omni.se citing Norwegian media. The injured person was taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter.
Police were called to the scene at around eight o'clock in the morning and launched a major operation. A man aged 25–30 years was arrested during the morning and is suspected of murder, among other charges.
The victims were members of the same hunting party, which at the time of the incident consisted of 13 people, according to information to Norwegian VG. The group had gathered to divide up hunting permits among themselves when the suspected man opened fire.
The arrested man was not part of the hunting party at the time, but according to information to several Norwegian media outlets had previously been a member of that specific party. The timing of when he left the group, and the reasons for it, are unclear.
"We are working on the hypothesis that there is a connection either to the hunting party or to people in the hunting party," says prosecutor Anders Svarholt to TT.
Witnesses at the scene held the suspected man until police arrived, according to incident commander Wilhelm Bjølseth to Norwegian media.
Halden is located approximately three miles north of Strömstad.
